Our volunteer network of artists are a cornerstone of RAAH. We welcome all artists to join our network of caring individuals covering symbols of hate.
Artist Expectations: A Commitment to Compassionate Action
As a RAAH artist, your brush is a powerful tool for healing and community repair. This commitment moves beyond simple art creation; it requires thoughtful action, professional accountability, and the embodiment of compassion in every interaction, transforming spaces and fostering community resilience.
All RAAH work and conduct are rooted in our five guiding: Equity/Diversity/Inclusion/Accessibility (EDIA), Creativity, Respect for Public Art, Healing and Connection, and Compassion. These principles serve as the framework for our restorative mission and vision.
Resources for Decision & Formal Commitments:
- Terms of Reference (TOR): The RAAH Terms of Reference have been created to provide you with a comprehensive overview of the organizational structure, the role of a RAAH artist, and detailed operational procedures. We encourage you to review the TOR to help you decide if being an artist in our network is the right commitment for you.
- Code of Conduct (Mandatory Commitment): As outlined in the Terms of Reference and accompanying Artist and Volunteer Policies, every artist formally commits to upholding the RAAH Code of Conduct. This ensures a supportive and professional community and upholds the highest ethical and artistic standards.
- Commitment to Non-Harm: Any action or artwork that violates the principles of non-harm—especially creating harmful or hateful imagery—is a direct breach of this restorative covenant and will necessitate immediate, permanent severance from the RAAH network.
- Commitment to Mutual Respect: Conduct that undermines RAAH’s values or disrupts the supportive nature of our community will require intervention and may lead to removal, as maintaining a safe space for all members is paramount to our mission.

Operational Flow: How We Work
1
Request Generation & Approvals
Our primary source of work comes from direct requests submitted by property owners, businesses, and organizations (via the “Request Our Services” page) who grant permission upfront. However, if RAAH artists or network members spot a symbol, they can initiate a request for RAAH to actively pursue the necessary letter of authority from the property owner.
Please note: While RAAH is committed to working diligently to receive and seek permissions, obtaining the legal authority to paint is not guaranteed for every symbol identified.
2
Project Distribution (The Classifieds):
Navigating life’s intricate fabric, choices unfold paths to the extraordinary, demanding creativity.
3
Claiming the Work:
Once a classified is posted (containing location and scope), an artist can ‘claim’ the job. The artist is then sent the verified letter of authority (permission to paint) via email.
4
Art Creation
The artist travels to the location with the copy of the official permission and covers the symbols with art that aligns with RAAH’s guiding principles.
5
Completion Confirmation & Submission
The artist takes a clear photograph of the completed work and sends it via the classified post within Discord. RAAH confirms completion with the requesting property owner/organization.
Please note: Artists have the option to be officially credited on the RAAH portfolio, choosing to use their name, an artistic or anonymous pseudonym, when the work is published online.
2
Transformation Kit Refill Request
If eligible based on the project’s size or the artist’s recent completions, the artist may submit a request for a refill of their Transformation Kit. Approval and fulfillment are subject to current inventory levels and policy requirements.
Compensation for work and support
Our organization is deeply committed to supporting our artists. We currently operate on a volunteer-first model while actively pursuing funding to achieve fair compensation for every contribution.
Current Support Model (Volunteer Focus):
The Transformation Kit:
- All active artists receive a complimentary Transformation Kit (formerly “Paint Go Kit”) upon claiming and completing their first project. This kit includes the core supplies needed for most transformations, such as:
- Outdoor Acrylic Paint
- Paintbrushes
- Painters Tape
- Essential Safety Gear
Kit Refills and Resupply:
- We understand material costs are significant. Artists can request a resupply or refill of their Transformation Kit under the following conditions:
- After the completion of multiple standard projects (e.g., two small-to-medium classified projects).
- After the completion of one sizable project that required extensive material use.
- Based on current pending work in the classifieds, ensuring you have materials for jobs you intend to claim. All refills are subject to current inventory levels.
Commissions are Compensated:
- Artists completing commissioned art pieces which are organized as fundraisers for RAAH are compensated fairly for their time and skill, with payment structure clearly outlined before work begins.
The Future Vision of Compensation
While our anti-hate symbol work is currently volunteer-based, our overriding strategic goal is to shift to a model where every artist is provided a fair compensation for every transformation completed. Our growth in donations and grants is solely focused on making this vision a reality. At this time, participation is positioned as a critical volunteer contribution to our restorative mission.
